Shed Window FAQ
1) What grade of wood is used for these sashes?
These are utility-grade sashes handcrafted from standard-grade pine. You should expect visible knots and natural wood grain variations. They are intended for sheds, barns, and outbuildings, rather than high-end residential applications.
2) Do I need to paint or stain the wood?
While the choice is yours, we highly recommend painting or sealing all six sides of the sash before installation to protect the raw pine from moisture and warping.
3) How should I calculate my rough opening?
Our 24"x 24" sashes are exactly 24" x 24" (Outside Measurements). Most builders prefer a rough opening that is slightly wider (typically 1/4" to 1/2" larger) to allow for squaring and shimming, but your specific installation method may vary.
4) Why are the sashes not glazed with silicone or putty?
Our acrylic panes are "floating" and are not glazed at the factory. This allows the sash to be easily taken apart for finishing, painting, or future pane replacement. We recommend applying a bead of quality silicone around the exterior edge of each pane after you have finished the wood.
5) Can these windows be hinged to open?
Yes. These are sold as bare sashes, which gives you the flexibility to install them as fixed windows or add your own hinges to create a hopper or awning-style window.
6) Do you offer custom sizes or different lite patterns?
We currently offer our standard lite patterns as shown. However, if you have a project requiring a specific custom size, please contact us directly through the site, and we will let you know if we can accommodate your request.
7) Is any hardware included?
No. To keep costs low and give you full control over your shed's look, we provide the bare sash only. Hinges, latches, and mounting hardware must be purchased separately.
